Nong Khai Town spreads along the south bank of the Mekong River opposite the Lao capitol of Vientiane. A few km up river is where the first Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge connects the neighboring countries.
Nong Khai is worth a visit to get a glimpse of Isaan life without sacrificing too many creature comforts. The town is “farang friendly” as quite a number of expats have made Nong Khai their home.
