Most of the city of Kamphaeng Phet stands on the west bank of the Maenam (River) Ping, the same river that flows through Chiang Mai. A number of small resorts are built along the east bank.

It's easy to spend an entire day wandering around the ruins. Unlike Sukhothai, the ruins in Kamphaeng Phet feel a lot more natural. You can actually feel as though you suddenly discovered a place in the woods.
The historical park has a museum with lots of information available as well as bicycles to rent .
In another nearby location, one temple was still being excavated just a few years ago.
Khampaeng Phet is worth a day of so for he wandering traveler soaking up culture. And if you get bore before you leave, the town has an outdoor exercise park along the river, complete with machines.
